Michele’s thought of the day…

So true!

It’s happened to me on more occasions than I can recall, actually.

This brings to mind a story…

A few years ago we went to eat at this restaurant. It was very late, and the seats in the smoking section were empty, which is always a good thing. We got our food and then sat down to enjoy it. I was nearly finished eating when I spot a family of three come in and plop down at the next table over. Note well, dear reader, the entire place is empty of people and they could have sat anywhere they wished to, even avoiding the tables with ashtrays on each.

I thought to myself “Maybe they feel lonely not sitting near someone in this empty place, who knows” and also noticed that both parents were, errr, slightly overweight, to put it mildly. The kid was turning into quite the porker too. Needless to say their plates were overloaded. Even though I noticed this I am not one to make snarky comments where the target of such would overhear. (I’d make snarky comments later in the car, in private - at most!

So, I finish my meal and pull out my cigarette case and light up. (For any non-smokers reading this, the cigarette after a meal is just about the best, second only to the one when you get up in the morning!)
Then I hear the woman comment to her husband “Did she have to light that nasty thing in here?” I started to comment but was shushed. I am bad about just blurting out blunt replies at times. Sometimes they can be hilarious, other times not so much, but it’s always good when I have someone along to keep me in polite mode.

I was going to say something snippy - along the lines of “Did you and your Supersized family have to sit right beside us in the goddamn smoking section when you could sit in the non-smoking section on the other side of the f-in restaurant!!?”

But, I was very polite and only maybe once, or twice did I purposely blow smoke in their direction!
